Prayer and Liturgy at Christ the King
At Christ the King RC Primary School, prayer and liturgy are at the heart of our community life, reflecting our commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of every pupil. Guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ and the rich traditions of the Catholic faith, we strive to create an environment where prayer is not just an activity, but a way of life.
Our daily routines are infused with opportunities for prayer, allowing pupils to connect with God and each other in meaningful ways. From collective worship to personal reflection, we celebrate significant moments in our lives through prayer and liturgy, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
We believe that engaging in prayer enriches our pupils' educational experience, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of their faith and the world around them. Our liturgical celebrations are thoughtfully planned, incorporating Scripture, music, and creative expressions that resonate with our diverse community.
Through our commitment to prayer and liturgy, we aim to inspire our pupils to become compassionate leaders, equipped with the faith and values necessary to make a positive impact in their lives and the lives of others. Join us as we embark on this spiritual journey together, celebrating the love of God and the joy of our shared faith.
Autumn Term
The Season of Creation
Each class took part in 'Creation Walk' celebrating the Season of Creation by taking part in prayer and liturgy outside in our school grounds. The GIFT team led the prayers and reflections in each class as the children had the opportunity to appreciate the changing of the seasons outdoors. The children ended the celebration by planting bulbs for the Spring.
October is the month of the Rosary
Classes celebrated the month of the Rosary in their class prayer and liturgy. Children also had the opportunity to take home the Rosary Prayer Pack and share the rosary beads and prayers with their family at home. Classes took part in the Rosary Challenge with Mark Ten Mission learning more about the Mysteries of the Rosary.
The Feast of Christ the King
To celebrate our school and parish feast we has a special prayer trail as part of the Year of Prayer. We invited parents and families along to pray with us. The prayers and activities were led by our GIFT Team pupils. We also held a special school Mass for the pupils and families in KS2 and an assembly for pupils in KS1.
Advent
As part of the class liturgies during Advent, the classroom prayer areas were decorated to reflect the season. Our entrance area and shared areas also remind us that Advent is a time of waiting for the Saviour to be born. Each class had an Advent Prayer Pack that could be taken home to share with families.
Spring Term
Jubilee Year of Hope Launch Assembly
Our Caritas Ambassadors and members of our GIFT Team led the Key Stage assemblies to launch our 'Jubilee Year of Hope'. They introduced the pupils to the theme of 'Pilgrims of Hope' and the offical Jubilee logo.
Ash Wednesday
We celebrated a whole school Mass at church with Father Derek for the start of Lent. Members of the GIFT team helped to distribute the ashes.
Year One Assembly
During Lent, pupils in Year 1 invited their Mums and Grandmas to their Mother's Day assembly. They shared the reasons why their mums are so special and presented them with a portrait and a daffodil.
Stations of the Cross
The GIFT Team pupils led Lenten Prayer Stations follwing the journey of Jesus as he carried his cross. They collected objects at each station to remind them of what happened at each point. We welcomed parents and families for a special time of reflection.
Summer Term
Crowning of Our Lady
At the start of May all the classes had the opportunity to visit the statue of Our Lady in the Prayer Garden to take part in prayer and liturgy. The children had prepared prayers and reflections and sang songs to Our Lady. The children all brought flowers or plants from home to honour Our Lady during the month of May and they placed a crown of flowers on her head to show that she is the Queen of Heaven and Queen of the May. The flowers were later distributed to residents at local care homes.
Jubilee 2025 Pilgrims of Hope Celebration
The Diocesan anchor visited Christ the King and was brought by the pupils from St.Mary's in Failsworth. The whole school gathered in church and we enjoyed a wonderful celebration of the word. The anchor was kept in school and we welcomed parents, pupils and parishioners to come along and offer their prayers of hope. We enjoyed a special day at school, as the children all wore the colours of the pilgrim logo and took part in a variety of activities including music, poetry, art and prayer with the theme of 'Hope for the Future'. It was a joyful celebration!
