Christ The King RC Primary School

French

At Christ the King Roman Catholic Primary School, we want every child to be enthusiastic learners of French and to be eager to achieve their very best in order to fulfil their God-given talents. Following a bespoke curriculum, children focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing as well as exploring the wider French culture. With the aid of a specialist teacher, Madame Binns, children explore the French language by playing games and songs focusing purposeful language as they move throughout Key Stage 2.

Each year, children throughout the school take part in French day where they experience carousel of activities focusing on the wider language of French. In addition, KS1 and KS2 children attend church celebrating the feast day of our Lady of Lourdes. This year, we are focusing on a Francophone day in which we explore the French speaking heritage of our children.

Christ the King RC has been awarded the foundation level of the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the wider world into the classroom.

The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools, so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life work in today’s world.

The International School Award encourages and supports schools to develop:

  • An international ethos embedded throughout the school.
  • A whole school approach to international work.
  • Collaborative curriculum-based work with a number of partner schools.
  • Year-round international activity.
  • Involvement of the wider community.

Pupils at Christ the King RC Primary School are immersed in international themes throughout the whole of their learning and this is fundamental to the fabric of their educational experience. Working within a multi-cultural and diverse school, we understand the important of promoting tolerance, respect and understanding of the world around us, whether this be within our local community or globally. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we explore the world around us from our foundation stage through to upper key stage 2, developing the previous year’s knowledge so every child is aware of the world in which they live in. We are constantly developing and improving our teachings, through different schemes of work to support our learning as well as specialist teachers to explore the language of French, fully embedding international understanding and awareness as every child works throughout our school.
