Year 1 Phonics
Phonics screening tests are short, light reading tasks carried out by class teachers on a one-to-one basis. This identifies children who need extra help so that the school can give them more support to improve their reading skills.
At the end of Key Stage 1, children are assessed in Reading, Writing, and Maths. This is done using national curriculum tests as well as the teachers' own judgement after considering pupils’ work in all of their lessons.
At the end of Key Stage 2, children take national curriculum tests in Maths, Reading and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling. Children will also be assessed in Writing based on their class teacher’s judgement of their work over the course of the year. Results will be shared with parents at the end of the Summer Term.
