What We Are Learning About - Spring 2
“I therefore…beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.” Ephesians 4;1
Year 6 Booster Sessions
These run every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8.00am - 8.30am.
Religion
Throughout this term, we will be looking at the theme of “Desert to Garden.” The children will be exploring the importance of prayer duirng Lent, why this is important to us and how this helped Jesus in his life. We will also be reflecting Christ's journey and temptation in the desert. This unit provides a wonderful opportunity for the students to discuss the importance of trust, the qualities of a good leader, and the significant impact prayer can have on our lives.
English
This half term we will be beginning with writing a non-chronologicl report about WW2. The children will be using their RAFT to ensure they capture the correct tone and write appropriately for their audience. We will be reading the book “When the Sky Falls” and working on our reading skills to help develop a deeper understanding of the story. The children will also be looking at the text "Letters from the Lighthouse" as a stimulus for a narrative about the Blitz.
Maths
We begin the term focusing on ratio, we then move onto scale factors and will finish the term with some work on shape. The children will continue to improve their knowledge of arithmetic through our daily “Super 6” questions. We will use this knowledge and apply it to a variety of question styles, concentrating first on fluency and then progressing on to reasoning and problem solving questions. As always, we promote oracy in this subject and the children will be using this skill to explain to their peers, how and why they have used methods, ultimately furthering and imbedding their learning.
