Christ The King RC Primary School

My Family History

In this unit, the children will explore similarities and differences between their own lives and those of people their grandparents'/great grandparents' age. The unit focuses on different topics, including homes, toys, shops and schools.  The children will develop an awareness of the past and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods. The children will use a wide vocabulary of everyday historic terms.

How can Parents / Carers support learning at home?

You can reinforce and support pupils' learning at home in lots of ways:

  • Talk to your child about their family tree.
  • Talk about memories about your childhood.
  • Visit a person who was a child in the 1950s, 1960s or 1970s. Encourage them to talk about what life was like for them growing up.
  • Share photographs or objects from the past.
  • Visit local museums or national trust houses and look at their home or old toy sections.
