Christ The King RC Primary School

Our Heroes

In this unit, the children will learn about the lives of some of the most significant people in the history, we will learn about the lives of Florence Nightingale, Louisa Da Cocodia and Emmeline Pankhurst. The unit will support the children in gaining an understanding of the breadth of contributions people can make in order to become significant, and will make links with the prior learning in Year 1 Unit 2: The Greatest Explorers. The children will use a range of sources of evidence, including oral history, visual images and written documents.

How can parents / carers support learning at home?

  • Visit a library to find books and information about our heroes and other people important to you.
  • Visit the Emmeline Pankhurst Monument in Manchester.
  • Visit the People's History Museum (PHM). The museum provides opportunities for people of all ages to learn about, be inspired by and get involved in ideas worth fighting for; ideas such as equality, social justice, co-operation, and a fair world for all.
